MethCon Group, as a member of the Northland Chamber of Commerce entered the Northland Chamber of Commerce Business Awards for the first time in 2007, having been trading since the beginning of 2006.

The awards night on the 14th of September was an exciting time for Managing Director and founder Mike Sabin, as his small team competed against many other highly successful Northland businesses.

The first accolade came early in the night when MethCon Group was awarded the Best Emerging Business for 2007. This category was open to all business that had been operating for more than one year, but not more than two years. Methcon Group was then announced as a finalist in the customer choice section, which involved nominations from members of the public, and the ACC award relating to workplace safety practices.

However the best news came at the conclusion of the evening, when MethCon Group was announced the winner of the supreme award; the Northland Business of the Year 2007.

Customer Choice Award Comments

When nominating businesses for the Customer Choice Award clients were able to offer a comment relating to the services provided by the business. A selection of some of the comments made about MethCon Group include:

“MethCon is working hard to make our society a better one in which to live with his presentations on the dangers of P. For businesses, families, individuals and schools, his talks are presented brilliantly. He spoke to 300 people here in Culverden and you could have heard a pin drop throughout the two hour talk. It was engaging, dramatic, humorous, informative, relevant and most of all useful”

“In an incredibly short time MethCon has made an enormous difference in terms of profile and education about this insidious drug”

“The training Mike conducted at our workplace (215 employees) opened our eyes to what a problem P has become and that the solution can not be left to just Police, but that we all need to take a proactive approach to ensuring that we educate our children and families to secure their futures. The impact of the training sessions was head and shoulders above any other type of training we have undertaken”

“Mike’s passion, skills and sheer determination to educate New Zealanders about P and consequently make a difference in people’s lives is inspirational”

“In the 8 years I have been employed by the Ministry, this is unquestionably the best course I have attended. The content was both informative and interesting and was presented in the most professional manner. Mike’s knowledge of his subject left me speechless and to this day I remember, in detail, the content”

Thanks from MethCon Group
I’d like to thank all those clients, communities and individuals who have been a part of growing this business by way of participating in various education programmes. There are not many businesses who aspire to make themselves redundant, but I guess this is one, and for each of you who are able to translate your knowledge and awareness about methamphetamine into a safer life for yourselves and for those you care about, the better off we all will be. We can all play a roll in reducing the demand for this drug, and by doing this we become part of the solution, because as Communities Working Together we can make a difference.
